Tree Planting on Causey Hill - 4th December 2021

ANOTHER SUCESSFUL ROTARY TREE PLANTING DAY IN HEXHAM.

GroupThe weather stayed fine for this autumn’s Rotary tree planting day at Highford Park in Hexham. Over 130 trees were planted to help develop a new woodland. Many of the trees were oaks grown from acorns by Andrew and Elaine Rigg with others provided by the Woodland Trust. A second day had been planned the following week with the National Trust near Haltwhistle, but the damage caused by storm Arwen has resulted in a postponement until next January.

Pictured are members of Hexham Rotary with Huw Davies from Hexham Space for Nature who helps with the area’s management. The tree planting will help offset the many Ash Trees dying in Hexham from ash dieback (Chalara) and also help absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere

Two Rotarians who had been the very first to volunteer this year were sadly missed. Terry Robson and Max Hamps both sadly died recently and so we dedicated the day to them.

The intention is to make these tree planting days annual events, so please come and join in next year.
